ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
KDV's Ongoing Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

KDV takes pride in our commitment not only to our customers but also to our environment. In recent years we have made investments and implemented major changes in order to improve our impact on the environment.

KDV has been in the forefront of environmentally sensitive handling of production waste. We have been recycling our material waste into fuel pellets since 1994. In 2008 this will mean 1,958,000 pounds of waste will not be taking up increasingly scarce landfill space. Instead this waste will be used to produce energy.

KDV has also been transitioning away from Solvent base Inks since the early 1990's. This movement coupled with investments in printing presses that have superior drying technology, provides the same quality product to the consumer with increased positive environmental consequences. This change also makes for a safer and more pleasant working environment for KDV employees.

In 2000, our Plate Department upgraded to digital manufacturing of plates. This eliminated photographic negative chemistry due to laser engraving of printing plates

In 2002 KDV made a significant investment in a solvent free plate making system.
By doing this we eliminated a significant amount of chemicals that had previously contained exposed photopolymer.

KDV has been encouraging the use of Natural Kraft Liner. This product replaces the white or bleached liner that was the industry standard for most of the 80's and 90's. The bleaching process requires the use of large amounts of clean water. Therefore this is a very valuable endeavor to switch as many products as possible to a natural kraft liner. KDV uses Billions of square inches of materials each year, any and all progress accomplished in this area has a significant positive environmental impact.

2007 saw KDV eliminate alcohols in cleaning solutions, opting for an organic cleaner that can now perform as well as the alcohol based product. In 2008, this will mean a reduction of 16,000 pounds of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) being released into the atmosphere.

The latest facility expansion in 2008 gave us the opportunity to switch to energy efficient lighting. This will provide excellent lighting using less energy.
